Let’s jump straight to the answer.
Do Berkey Water Filters Remove Fluoride?
To figure this out, I kept it simple…
- test my tap water before filtering
- test the Berkey water for fluoride
So let’s start by testing my tap water to see where we stand before filtering.
The fluoride meter registered 0.6 ppm of fluoride in my tap water.
Now let’s see if the Berkey can filter out the fluoride from my tap water.
So… do Berkey water filters remove fluoride?
Yes, Berkey water filters do remove fluoride. In fact, the Berkey water filter took fluoride levels previously at 0.6 ppm, all the way down to 0.0 ppm. Virtually removing ALL the fluoride found in my tap water.
IMPORTANT: Truth About Fluoride no longer recommends the Berkey as an approved fluoride filter. After hearing concerning news and having independently conducted tests done, Berkey’s recommendation has been revoked. That’s where all test results, screenshots, and reasoning is posted.
However, the only way a Berkey will remove fluoride is if it has the additional white fluoride filters attached (pictured below).
In fact, the white filters provide a very important step many filters are lacking for fluoride removal, which is why filters like Epic Nano was shown in do Epic Nano filters remove fluoride – to only reduce fluoride levels from 0.6 to 0.5 ppm.
BUT the white filters have problems. To be exact, the reason I revoked my recommendation of the Berkey is due to the fact the white filters leach aluminum into your filtered water.
So I’d recommend you not buy a Berkey and instead go with a different filter.
A filter you feel happy and safe using.
