I’ve already tested Brita and Zerowater, but do PUR water filters remove fluoride?
To answer this question, we’re going to do what’s best… buy a PUR water filter and test it with a fluoride meter. This way we are 100% sure. Especially since there are different answers online trying to answer this question. Some say yes while others say no.
Do PUR Water Filters Remove Fluoride?
The first step is to test the fluoride levels of the tap water we’re going to filter. This way we will know how much fluoride a PUR water filter removes when we test it.
The fluoride meter registered 0.6 ppm of fluoride in my tap water.
Which means it’s time to test the filtered water from the PUR filter. Hopefully it performs better than Brita, which was unable to remove any fluoride when tested (0.6 ppm before and after filtering).
So, do PUR water filters remove fluoride?
According to the fluoride meter, the new PUR water filter pitchers can only remove 50% of fluoride. As fluoride levels were 0.6 ppm before filtering and 0.3 ppm after filtering.
Previously PUR water filter pitchers were able to remove fluoride, however it seems like they’ve changed something and can no longer remove as much fluoride as before.
But putting that aside, let’s get to another important question…
Should You Buy A PUR Water Filter?
When it comes to filtering fluoride, PUR does NOT get the job done.
Now like I said, before PUR filters were able to remove fluoride and it seems like something called “MAX ION technology” was responsible for that. However, even then PUR never claimed to remove fluoride which always confused people.
So clearly, PUR is not an option.
While the only other mainstream water filter pitcher that removed fluoride was Zerowater, as when tested, it took fluoride levels in my tap water down to 0.0 ppm.
But I’d stay away from Zerowater too. In fact, after testing dozens of water filter pitchers the only brand that is worth recommending is Clearly Filtered (link to their website).
It removes fluoride, the filters last for 100 gallons, which is much longer than Zerowater and PUR combined and it does not leach aluminum like other filters such as Berkey. Plus it comes with unique filtering technology that ranks as one of the best methods on how to remove fluoride from water.
But before you head on over to Clearly Filtered, I’d consider this last point…
Other Filters That Remove Fluoride?
The only way to know if a filter removes fluoride is to test it.
